About Us & About The House

Tremayne was bought by the current owner, Alison Trelawny, in 2017. It was a big day when the keys were handed over – not just because the family would be returning to Cornwall after being up country for years, but also because it is not the first time that a Trelawny has lived in the house. Our great aunt owned the house 40 years ago, so it is exciting to see a Trelawny on the Deeds once again!

Built in the mid 17th Century as a small country home, Tremayne has been updated and extended over the years, with the most significant work taking place in the early-19th Century. Since moving in, the family have embarked on a lengthy schedule of renovations and refurbishment of the main house, the farmhouse, the farm buildings and the gardens, updating and restoring as they go, and breathing elegant new life into this former sleeping beauty. Using local workmen, tradespeople and suppliers, Alison and the family have worked hard to ensure that Tremayne is returned to its former glory, becoming a much-loved family home once again.

We have welcomed countless guests to our cottages and farmhouse since launching them in 2018, receiving excellent reviews and Superhost status on AirBnb. The cottages and farmhouse have been restored to Alison’s exacting standards, providing wonderfully comfortable accommodation to our guests, whether during the hot summer months or for chilly winter breaks. Our location at the end of a private road on the Lizard peninsula in South West Cornwall has created a safe, peaceful, and private sanctuary ideal for families, groups of friends or for couples.

Tremayne is privately owned by the Trelawny family. Alison is in charge, supported by her children, George and Clemmie, brother-in-law Jonny, niece Emma, and gardening expert Matthew.
